Worcester Art Museum Announces Fall/Winter Lineup of Programs and Public Events

Two Free Admission Days with Community Celebrations kick off months of Special Programing, including Talks, Performances, and more.

Worcester, MA—November 2, 2023—The Worcester Art Museum (WAM) will host a lineup of programs and events this fall and winter featuring special free days in partnership with community organizations. The Museum will kick the season off with a free Diwali Celebration for the seventh year, a full day of performances and programs for all ages in celebration of this festival of lights. The Museum will partner with the Worcester JCC and the Jewish Federation of Central MA to host a full day of programming that celebrates Hanukkah, including performances, activities and free admission. The month of December will feature special events and musical performances every weekend and more. Two new exhibitions will be on view this fall, with special tours and talks by the curators. Tours and Talks

Every Sunday at 1 pm the Museum offers Highlights tours. Led by docents, these tours offer visitors a trip through the galleries to discover highlights of the vast collection.

The Museum hosts talks throughout the year by artists and experts on a wide variety of subjects. This fall in conjunction with the new exhibition, Rembrandt: Etchings from the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the curator of the exhibition will come to the Worcester to discuss the renowned artist. Join Peter van der Coelen, Curator of Print and Drawings, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, for a talk on Rembrandt’s Etchings, Innovation, and Ambition.

In February, Dorian Bergen and Michele Wallace will give a talk offered in conjunction with the Museum’s ongoing exhibition Faith Ringgold: Freedom to Say What I Please. Dorian Bergen is the President of New York’s American Contemporary Art Galleries (ACA Galleries). Bergen first met Ringgold in the mid-1990s and has been advocating for the artist’s rightful place in the art world since. Join these two experts for this talk on Faith Ringgold’s Life and Art.

Concerts, Performances, and Family Fun

Exhibitions

Faith Ringgold: Freedom to Say What I Please is a succinct survey of Ringgold’s art which centers around a cornerstone work from the Worcester Art Museum’s collection: Picasso’s Studio (1991). Acquired in the 1990s, it is a prime example of her “story quilts,” objects that combine painting, storytelling, and quilting. On view now.

Discover the life and self-taught skill of the Dutch artist, Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669), through his etchings. Rembrandt: Etchings from the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen featuring over 80 works, including 70 etchings by the artist, alongside works from those who inspired and were inspired by him. This exhibition comes to Worcester from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam and is among the largest exhibitions of the artist’s etchings to ever be shown in the United States. Opening November 18.
