Scott Strong Hawk Foster’s Ways of My Ancestors – We are Still Here is a Native American photography series on view November 6, 2024–May 11, 2025. Strong Hawk’s artist talk will be centered around celebrating the “why” behind his work and what drives him to creatively use his camera to speak the truths and highlight the beauty, pride, and resilience of the Eastern Woodlands People of Southern New England.

“Our ancestors have lived on the lands of these New England towns and cities for centuries while maintaining our sense of identity and ties to the region as our ancestral homelands. We are not the stereotypes of ‘Indians’ that so many of us were taught in school or through film, television, theater, and other forms of pop culture entertainment. We are in every sector of public life, as educators and healthcare workers, as lawyers, accountants, and consultants, as farmers, in skilled trades, and as service providers of every kind. My ethos as an Indigenous artist is to represent my family and my community authentically, to record compelling images that make known the true stories of our heritage, values, and oral traditions, and to attest to how we are thriving today. This is ‘the why’ behind what I do.”
